Bernie has over 28 years of geotechnical engineering experience on transportation, infrastructure, mining, and municipal projects in Alberta and many other provinces across Canada. He’s led geotechnical teams and has conducted geotechnical investigations for highways, roads, tunnels, bridges, rail infrastructure, pipelines, buildings, municipal services, utilities, storm water management, and control structures.
A subject matter expert in the geotechnical engineering applications of lightweight fill technologies using tire derived aggregate (TDA), he’s published several papers in various transportation, industry, and geotechnical conferences and journals across Canada and the US. He has provided peer review and technical advice to designers, provincial ministries, and transportation departments in four provinces on the use of TDA technology in transportation and municipal infrastructure projects, including the design of a TDA geotechnical engineering application for a new highway twinning project in Saskatchewan.
Bernie enjoys working with and mentoring the younger geotechnical staff in Stantec. In his spare time, he enjoys Crossfit training and the great outdoors with his family.
