Ali earned his doctorate in geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering from the University of Toronto, conducting research on the risk assessment of landfill slope failure using probabilistic methods. Now a geotechnical engineer based in Burnaby, he has more than 10 years of experience with geotechnical site investigations, field and lab soil tests, slope stability assessments in static and seismic conditions, settlement analyses, ground improvements, and the design of foundations, retaining walls, and shoring systems, among other tasks.
Ali applies his geotechnical knowledge and skills to the design and delivery of challenging and complex projects in various sectors. He has worked on facilities for marine and port, oil and gas, and energy clients as well as on transportation infrastructure and bridges, wastewater treatment plants and pump stations, lagoons, and pipelines.
When he isn’t busy with his latest geotechnical engineering effort, Ali spends time with family and friends. He likes to grill steaks and kababs, mix special beverages, and practice Persian dance.
