John is a senior transportation engineer who handles a broad array of civil engineering assignments including highway and municipal improvement projects. When asked about what has sustained him over more than three decades, he talks about the challenge and the fun of designing a project the client wants, the contractor can build, and the stakeholders can embrace.
Among his many projects, the Woods Memorial Bridge Replacement typifies the challenges John enjoys. He’s managing the design of replacements for two obsolete bridges—one over four active railroad tracks and the other over the Malden River.
Sensitivity to stakeholders’ needs and exceptional coordination are key. State and local agencies, the MBTA, Coast Guard, Tufts University, local businesses, bicyclists, utilities, and environmental agencies are all part of the very complicated picture, and John’s mastery is clear, as the project appears to be ahead of schedule.
