George focuses on the conceptualization, design, study, and operation of mining projects, though his main expertise is in mine water management and permitting through US federal land management agencies. Before joining Stantec, George managed large-scale mine dewatering systems in northern Nevada where he implemented high-volume groundwater pumping to dewater mines as well as artificial recharge operations to return unused water to the local aquifer.
For over 24 years, George was affiliated with the Cortez Mine in northeastern Nevada. His work there built on a mining history that started in 1862, with ongoing operations projecting more than 30 years of known remaining mine life. George supported expansion and sustainability considerations, which unlocked life extensions for the mine and security for its workforce.
Improving communities through local economic development has been George’s life-long passion. He believes that all communities—large and small—need an economic driver that matches their values and self-image in order to sustain and thrive.
