Stantec recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity

Leading global design firm Stantec has been named to the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Diversity in 2021. The annual list of 500 companies is compiled by Forbes and Statista, a leading statistics and industry ranking provider, using responses from a survey of over 50,000 US employees working for companies with at least 1,000 people in their US operations.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity,” said Asifa Samji, Stantec’s Chief Human Resources Officer. “Championing inclusion, diversity, and equity is foundational for Stantec, and we must continue to foster a workplace culture that not only empowers and inspires, but also attracts and nurtures the best and brightest talent while allowing everyone to be true to themselves.”

Forbes and Statista conducted the independent survey, which asked respondents to anonymously rate their employers on criteria such as equality and diversity among age, gender, ethnicity, disability, and sexual orientation. These responses were reviewed for potential diversity gaps; if workers from underrepresented groups, for example, rated an employer poorly on diversity, but their counterparts rated it highly, Statista took that into account and adjusted the company’s score accordingly. Statista then asked respondents belonging to underrepresented groups to nominate companies other than their own.

The final list ranks the 500 employers that not only received the most recommendations, but also boast the most diverse boards and executive ranks, as well as the most proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives.

A commitment toward a more equitable future
The Forbes recognition is one in a series of recent company milestones related to inclusion, diversity, and equity. Stantec was also named by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers for Women for 2020, one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2020 and 2021, and one of the World’s Best Employers for 2020.

Additionally, Stantec was recognized on the 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index and the firm recently launched the Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship to provide people in historically underrepresented and Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) groups with financial aid, contributing to the creation of a critical mass of talented students that will fully represent the industry.
