November 20: The Evolving Role of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Water Management

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are becoming disruptive technologies because they can learn and predict patterns directly from data, examples, and experience instead of relying on understanding mechanisms or pre-defined rules. The power of ML/AI has already transformed several industries including banking, logistics and insurance. There is growing excitement around the potential value of these technologies for applications in the water industry.

Widespread adoption in the water industry will take some time. But we are making progress! In the last four years, there have been advances in specific areas such as leak detection in sewer systems, drinking water demand forecasting, wastewater process modeling, and water quality prediction. However, these advancements are still limited to a few utilities that have been traditionally open to testing, evaluating, and adopting new technologies. 

This webinar will provide a practical assessment of the ML algorithms gaining momentum and the data requirements and challenges when considering implementing ML technologies. We will put a water-lens on the exciting opportunities unlocked with ML/AI technologies, and frame them in the context of what challenges such technologies can help us solve.
