Stantec is dedicated to promoting LGBTQ2+ communities and their rights to equality
Over the month of June, people all around the globe will be coming together to celebrate LGBTQ2+ communities. This is Pride month. Celebrations will include a variety of events, but it’s not just about celebration—it’s an opportunity to peacefully protest and to raise political awareness about the issues and discrimination that LGBTQ2+ communities face.
We believe in promoting tolerance, inclusion, and diversity within our workforce. It’s the right thing to do, but it also attracts and invites a full spectrum of talent into the organization. To provide our clients with the best, most creative solutions, it’s important to be representative of the communities we live and work in and to support our team members with a culture where they’re encouraged to bring their whole selves to work.
Here at Stantec, we have Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that help foster community and engagement for underrepresented groups within our Company. One of our ERGs, Pride@Stantec, is a safe and supportive space for LGBTQ2+ colleagues and allies. The goal? To build a culture of acceptance and inclusiveness in the workplace. During the month of June, many of our offices, supported by Pride@Stantec, celebrate Pride in a number of different ways.
In Edmonton, Alberta, where Pride@Stantec started, they hosted a panel discussion on how to engage family—chosen, birth, and adopted—and colleagues in discussions about allyship. The panel also went into how to make meaningful connections within the community.
In Vancouver, British Columbia; Manchester, United Kingdom; and San Antonio, Texas, Stantec employees will be participating in Pride parades. Vancouver’s Pride parade is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and the Manchester parade is one of the biggest parades in the UK.
In the Minneapolis, Minnesota office, the team kicked off Pride with a group event supporting the local professional soccer team, MN United, for their sixth annual Pride Game on June 2.
And it doesn’t stop with June. There are tons of Pride events happening around Stantec offices throughout the entire summer. The inclusive community we want to achieve encourages all individuals to celebrate their identity and unique voice. We believe in standing with the LGBTQ2+ community.
