Stantec has donated over $330,000 to Boys Girls Club of Ottawa
In 2006, Stantec joined the Ottawa Senators Alumni in their efforts to raise money for a new main facility for Camp Smitty. They were looking to raise $2 million; our contributions would be annually through a Stantec hockey tournament. Through team registrations, sponsorships, and a tournament raffle, $20,000 in charitable donations was raised in the first couple of years. Stantec decided to supplement charity efforts with pro bono engineering support as well as having a day of community work (during Stantec in the Community Week) at Camp Smitty every year.
This past month was the 22nd anniversary of the hockey tournament which, as of February 2020, has generated approximately $330,000 in charitable donations along with 2500+ charitable hours spent running the tournament and spending time at Camp Smitty.
Part of the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, Camp Smitty is a non-profit camp that believes in enhancing the self-development and quality of life of their campers. The camp offers children and youth from vulnerable areas across Ottawa an experience of stress-free fun like swimming, canoeing, hiking, and more. Every year, 15 to 25 Stantec employees head out to Camp Smitty to complete manual tasks like painting of facilities, brush clearing, log splitting, wood chipping, tree felling, and so much more.
This year, the hockey tournament raised $50,000 for Camp Smitty and was featured on CTV News Ottawa (starts at 28:00).
