A feasibility study exploring the viability and profitability of several expansion scenarios for Newmont’s gold plant in Tanami
To determine the upgrades and capital costs required for the expansion of their gold plant in Tanami, Newmont Asia Pacific needed a level 2A feasibility study. They brought us in to progress the study in several broad stages, including developmental requirements for the new crushing circuit and the upgrade process plant, as well as the capital cost estimate, process flowsheets, technical design specifications, and equipment datasheets.
The modelled options included a 3.2 million tonnes per annum and a 3.8 million tonnes per annum three-stage crushing plant design as well as a 3.8 million tonnes per annum crushing design with high pressure grinding rollers. The feasibility study explored the viability and profitability of the various expansion scenarios and helped us identify the preferred expansion outcome and justify project funding for the next phase.
The capital expansion budget was the main driver for equipment selection, and the project budget required tight control. We collaborated with Newmont to ensure all the expansion options presented and costed were able to achieve the required expansion scenarios. The study enabled Newmont to gather the required financial information to allow them to move onto the next phase of the project.
