Rest Area Mass Upgrade Project

The rest area upgrade project involves the upgrade of rest areas across the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ (TMR) Central Queensland Region. The project will increase desirability for motorists to take breaks and manage fatigue while improving and upgrading facilities to improve accessibility for vulnerable road users.

Stantec provided design services, contract administration and project management, including site supervision and surveillance. We were responsible for road geometric design, drainage, pavement, road furniture, rest area layout, improving accessibility using the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 framework and traffic engineering elements like traffic management, vehicle movement plans, delineation, and parking areas. We monitored subcontractors to ensure safety and environmental compliance and provided timely and economical project delivery. We supported TMR with verification of claim documentation, weekly progress reports and the validation and approval of subcontractors’ quality assurance and works program, completed quantities, materials, and resources.

The result? Multiple well-appointed and attractive rest areas allowing our driving communities to get home safely.
