Life-changing upgrades improve liveability while maintaining unique heritage features
Upgrading five train stations across New South Wales (NSW) creates accessible transport options for everyone, significantly improving liveability in regional townships. It’s all part of the Transport Access Program, a rolling program of works established by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) that contributes to the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) targets through disability standards compliance upgrades.
Our client, TfNSW, engaged us to deliver detailed designs for all five stations, three of which are heritage listed sites—working closely with their heritage consultant, we were able to gain heritage approvals without delaying the project timeline. We provided site investigations, compliance reporting, and transport assessments. Our team also provided architectural, urban, and landscape design, along with building services, electrical and communications, and civil and structural design. And we assisted with upgrading intermodal transfers and car parks, the provision of DDA compliant ramps, doorways, accessways, and platform improvements.
Our designs for the heritage stations maintained and enhanced unique and important heritage features. The outcome? Accessible transport options for all parts of the community while celebrating the heritage and Indigenous significance of these stations and preserving their history for future generations to enjoy.
