Safe, accessible pedestrian and cycle pathways are on the route to sustainable communities
Dedicated pathways for pedestrians and cyclists are becoming more popular as their benefits to human health and environmental sustainability become priorities. Working with the Kiama Municipal Council, we provided the design and consulting services needed to construct a new walkway and cycleway along the Minnamurra River. The 1.6 kilometre project includes an 800 metre stretch of boardwalk over the river, creating a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists, that also provides closer access to the natural environment.
Many pathway users would be surprised how complex the process is to get from concept to the actual construction phase. Our role includes environmental studies, stakeholder and community consultation, pathway route proposals, concept design, survey, geotechnical investigation, landscape design, specialist ecological and heritage investigations, and arborist assessments.
Though the process may seem arduous, we recognize the need for thorough understanding of the physical and social context of the project. And we are proud that our expertise can provide understanding of the process to all of our partners and stakeholders along the path to completion.
