Ipswich Intelligent Transport System Strategy

A historic town properly set for the future

A well-designed plan to move Ipswich’s transport system into the future

Ipswich is a historical, working-class city within a 40-minute drive west of Brisbane, Australia. To prepare for future urban renewal and population growth, Ipswich City Council (ICC) released ‘iGO’ in 2016 to advance their transport system in a sustainable manner. By leveraging emerging technologies, including shared mobility services and automated vehicles, iGO aims to revolutionise the city’s transport system.

We developed the iGO Intelligent Transport System Strategy, outlining ICC’s tactical approach to Intelligent Transport System (ITS) deployment over the next decade. The strategy recommends a way forward to resource, advocate, trial, support and execute with other levels of government, industry, businesses, and the community. Our team reviewed global municipal best practices in transport technologies, collaborating with our ITS experts in Canada, USA, and New Zealand. We also engaged several stakeholders and conducted workshops to establish aspirations and align priorities with ICC’s smart city program and corporate goals.

The outcome? We developed a suite of 73 priorities of projects, protocols, and partnerships, with a signature focus on emerging transport technologies in the initial two-year period.
