Unique hotel design adds to iconic architecture at Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) on the Berridale Peninsula
The owners of the unique attractions at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA)—a privately-funded collection of ancient, modern, and contemporary art—are excited to present their plans for the addition of a 5-star, 172-room hotel to the peninsula development. With a focus on sustainability, ecology and environmental issues, our acoustics, electrical, fire engineering and protection, hydraulics, and mechanical engineers are thrilled to have the opportunity to experiment and push the envelope with the hotel’s avant-garde design.
The striking hotel design cantilevers 53 metres out over the River Derwent and accommodates a theatre, spa centre, library, and conference and auditorium facilities in addition to an outdoor concert stage. Demanding complex services (integration between the existing built form and the proposed structure), a modular approach is being adopted to facilitate construction.
Once built, the hotel will be a key feature in the Hobart community, drawing travellers from afar to admire its striking design, features, and ambiance.
