Gateway to GMH Cycling Corridor

The GMH (General Motors Holden) Site in Melbourne ceased operation in 2020 and has since presented itself as a prime opportunity for urban renewal and transformative design. Now known as “Fishermans Bend” this site has all the right intentions by the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne to become catalyst for manufacturing, engineering, and entrepreneurship.

We were responsible for developing the civil design and documentation of this project which consists of a 1.2km long cycling corridor along Turner Street and Graham Street in Fishermans Bend. The completed project will be a 3.5m wide shared path along the southern side of Turner Street between Salmon Street and Graham Street where it transitions to become a protected on-road bicycle lane.

Our team implemented creative placemaking via public art along the path, 5G digital infrastructure to support and monitor future innovation along the corridor, greening to provide a mature tree canopy and solar lighting that promotes ambiance and safety.

Our contribution to this project will help to improve walkability/rideability within Melbourne, which further promotes our pledge to a safe, sustainable, and beautiful future.
