Reviving heritage by preserving a historic façade on a 30-storey tower

Student housing is in high demand in Perth. Situated on a long-vacant corner at 325 Wellington Street, this 30-storey tower answers that call. Forming the city’s largest high-rise student accommodation to date, the building incorporates a heritage listed façade. The development includes over 700 student rooms and common amenities, such as private and group study, dining areas, game rooms, pool, and lounge, with a lower level intended for commercial use.

Our civil and structural team helped deliver this exciting and challenging development. Assimilating the heritage façade drove our structural design, which comprised a piled raft, central core, and conventionally reinforced floor slab. The vertical support system consists of thin, blade-columns within partition walls to increase usable space on the floors. We selected pre-cast walls to facilitate quick and easy construction in this urban location.

Scheduled for completion in 2025, the tower will help fulfill the demand for purpose-built accommodation in the city for local, national, and international students.
