Stantec employees choose where to direct our annual donation
Twelve years ago, Stantec started donating $50,000 to non-profit organisations every December during our annual holiday campaign. Last year, we bumped the donation up to $100,000. This year? We’re doing it again to help our communities where we work and live become strong, vibrant, and inclusive.
Our collective efforts as a company have aided in the creation, support, and strengthening of our communities. We've donated just over $769,000 through this campaign since 2010.
Two years ago, we introduced a voting system for employees to indicate the organszations they wanted to see Stantec support, which resulted in donations going to Feeding America, Food Bank Canada, The Trussell Trust, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Canadian Mental Health Association, Beyond Blue, and Habitat for Humanity. We asked for input from our employees again this year, and this time we included organisations addressing food insecurity, affordable housing, mental health, and the full spectrum of sustainability—environmental, social, and governance:
UNOPS is an integral member of the United Nations. They’re committed to UN values—with a focus on implementation. They work with global partners to bring solutions for peace and security, humanitarian aid, and development to some of the world’s most challenging environments. Though UNOPS works to support all the UN Sustainable Development Goals, their focus is defined by the needs of their partners as well as the communities and people they serve.
World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to providing meals following natural disasters. WCK has supplied hot meals to communities after hurricanes and wildfires, feeding stranded cruise ship passengers and converting restaurants into soup kitchens as their response to COVID. They’re supporting Ukraine families by providing food kits and hot meals, and they’ve distributed nearly 200 tons of food to flooded villages in Pakistan. They also focus on food resilience programs and human and environmental health, and they offer jobs and training to help improve food security.
Habitat for Humanity is a global housing organisation working in local communities across 70 countries worldwide. Habitat has helped more than 29 million people construct, rehabilitate, or preserve homes since 1976.
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) provides the resources and programs necessary to combat mental health issues and support recovery. The CMHA runs multiple programs a year focused on raising awareness around mental health issues while supporting partner organisations and relevant initiatives. The association is also known to release public statements addressing different laws, regulations, and governmental initiatives that affect mental health.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) envisions a world where all people affected by mental illness live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
Beyond Blue is the most well-known mental health organisation in Australia and has been providing support and services to people in need for over 20 years. They provide a safe and reliable place for millions of people to access information, advice, and support.
Mind is a mental health charity in England and Wales. Founded in 1946, Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf.
