Improving journeys and reducing carbon emissions of public transport in south-central England
Our client, the Solent Transport partnership comprises Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council, and Isle of Wight Council. Their job? Work together to make sure citizens in south-central England benefit from transport planning and solutions. Solent Transport needed a delivery plan that identified public transport solutions in partnership with operators and considered options for improved service.
We supported Solent Transport’s strategy by developing a toolset to improve public transport, one that would shorten journey times and improve reliability and efficiency while reducing dependence on the public sector. This would facilitate economic growth and safeguard employment.
With the toolset in place, we created a delivery plan to describe how the public transport network would look following the delivery of already committed schemes, and what further deliverables (such as improving accessibility and reducing private car use) would be required to enable and unlock economic growth and reduce carbon emissions of the completed public transport network.
Finally, we produced proposals for major public transport interventions categorised by strategic objective, with each scheme described, costs outlined, and benefits explained. Our analytical approach, which focused heavily on economic growth impacts, provided the hard evidence the client needed to seek funding opportunities for the most promising projects.
