Securing planning permission for much needed residential development
A 9.6 hectare site at Heath Lane in Lowton (Wigan) had previously been safeguarded for future housing development; however, following representations we submitted on behalf of the client Bloor Homes, Wigan Council agreed that there was a need for the land to come forward sooner to help the Council maintain a five-year deliverable housing supply.
We subsequently worked collaboratively with the Council and submitted a series of full planning applications to facilitate the development of 268 new homes at the site. In 2017, our team secured full planning permission for an initial phase of 129 homes before securing permission for an additional phase of homes in May 2019. In September 2020, Wigan Council’s Planning Committee resolved to grant full planning permission for the third phase of 69 homes at the site.
The development includes a range of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses as well as apartments, to meet local housing needs. The new homes will cater for a range of people, from first-time buyers to growing families, and have been carefully designed to complement their surroundings and enhance the appearance of the area. Of the 268 new homes, 25% will be affordable properties, providing opportunities for those struggling with the first step on the housing ladder.
As well as providing much needed new family homes for the area, the development will also create new jobs and deliver vital investment in services and infrastructure in the community.
