Stantec joins CMDP+ as strategic design partner to further support Southern Water

Stantec will support the joint venture in helping evolve Southern Water’s strategic asset upgrade programme

12/01/2025 LONDON, UK TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, is supporting the CMDP+ joint venture (JV) comprising Costain and MWH Treatment, as its strategic design partner. Together, they are helping shape, evolve, and deliver Southern Water’s next strategic asset upgrade programme.

Stantec brings a significant workforce, a historic and successful relationship with Southern Water, and a deep understanding of the UK water sector into the venture. Blended teams within CMDP+ are supporting Southern Water with cost effective, timely, high-quality, and sustainable whole life design solutions for non-Infrastructure projects throughout AMP8. Specialists across the JV and Stantec have already started developing concept solutions and conducting site visits.

Combined strengths and specialisms

CMDP+ has been working with Stantec on AMP8 projects since 2024, reviewing Southern Water’s wastewater programme and supporting alternative value options for consideration. The move by Stantec further builds on the long and successful multi-AMP relationship between all parties which has evolved alongside Southern Water’s asset lifecycle process, wastewater, and WINEP programmes.

By joining CMDP+ in an evolved role, Stantec will become more involved in the delivery of schemes, supporting projects from early stages into construction. This expands Stantec’s previous AMP7 involvement from the front end to the asset delivery process. As the collaboration grows, the JV will be able to leverage Stantec’s additional resources and sector expertise throughout the most aspirational AMP period to date. Stantec will also bring digital, environmental and planning services to CMDP+, including town and country planning, as part of their broader remit.

A natural next step

“Our relationship has gone from strength to strength, and CMDP+ feels like a natural evolution for everyone involved, said Velda Fairclough, client services director, Stantec. “We’re excited to drive innovation, efficiency, and sustainability for Southern Water, helping shape and deliver its next strategic asset upgrade programme in a spirit of collaboration.”

Neil Cuthbert, head of engineering at CMDP+ added: “It’s fantastic to have Stantec on board as a strategic design partner for AMP8. Our established relationship in the region has gone from strength to strength over the previous two AMPs.  I look forward to the additional value in AMP8 and continued exceptional collaborative team working.”
