Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has appointed Ana Marques as its new head of engineering for transmission and distribution (T&D) in the UK and Ireland.
Marques has built a wealth of experience in T&D design and construction, working across the energy, contractor, and consultancy sectors over the last 20 years. She will now support Stantec’s significant portfolio of T&D work across the UK and Ireland power sectors, leading engineering with a focus on overall delivery. Her role includes overseeing stringent quality and document controls and BIM processes, aligning Stantec’s delivery with each individual client so that the growing team continues to deliver excellence across the board.
Marques joins Stantec’s T&D team from Wood, having previously held senior engineering lead roles at Balfour Beatty, Vinci, and National Grid. She will now be responsible for the delivery of Stantec’s T&D engineering programme, amid a backdrop of intensifying demand for grid upgrades, a surge in renewable energy schemes, and ambitious national energy and carbon targets.
Marques will join Stantec’s Glasgow office, reporting to transmission and distribution director, Sophie Lee, who commented: “Ana comes to Stantec during one of the most pivotal moments for the market. We’re at the point where we need hundreds of new substations and thousands of kilometres of new overhead lines over the next few years to reinforce the network and deliver clean power by 2030. We’re delighted to bring her and her broad management expertise on board as we help clients upgrade the UK’s grid and support the energy transition.”
Ana Marques commented on her appointment as Stantec’s new head of T&D engineering saying: “It really is an exciting time to be working in the energy sector and the team at Stantec were a perfect fit to be at the heart of that work. There are immensely complex issues to confront as we bring more renewables online while transforming the nation’s power infrastructure. However, I’ve seen how Stantec is able to make the most of both its global footprint and local expertise to address client challenges and redefine what’s possible.”
She continued: “I’m looking forward to being part of this incredibly high-performing team as it continues growing, working to deliver reliable, sustainable power to the people and places that need it.”
Stantec’s T&D consultants work with local and national clients across the public and private sectors to expand power networks, upgrade grid infrastructure, and bring about integrated, sustainable, and reliable power solutions.
The team is experienced in a range of capabilities including: engineering (feasibility and detailed design), planning, consenting, siting, routing, asset management, grid connection, and smart grid services. The company’s delivery includes civil and electrical high voltage and low voltage engineering design as well as HVDC studies and design.
