Stantec, a global leader in sustainable architecture, engineering, and environmental consulting, has been named ‘Best place to work’ and ‘International consulting firm of the year’ at the 2024 New Civil Engineer (NCE) Awards.

The NCE Awards celebrate the best achievements by engineering consultancies and associated organisations. The entries are judged vigorously by an independent panel of more than 70 industry-leading professionals. The judges commented that Stantec had ‘a clear focus on building internal and external networks which have a beneficial impact on employee engagement and loyalty’. They also praised the Company’s ‘clear strategic direction, strong leadership, high staff retention’, and passion for growth.

The ‘International consulting firm of the year’ award celebrates firms that have continually delivered innovation, quality, and value while growing in terms of revenue, profits, and staff numbers.

Stantec empowers clients, people, and communities to rise to the world’s greatest challenges at a time when society faces more unprecedented concerns than ever. The firm has grown to employ more than 31,000 people working from 450 offices around the world.

In the first half of 2024, Stantec added over 2,700 team members to its global workforce through three consecutive acquisitions, including Germany-based ZETCON, Ontario, Canada-based Morrison Hershfield, and most recently Hydrock in the United Kingdom.

The ’Best place to work’ accolade recognises the large engineering consulting firm which can best demonstrate that it is an exemplar place to work by improving the wellbeing of its employees both personally and professionally. Stantec’s continued focus on learning, training and development, as well as its commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive culture was commended at the event in London.

“We need tomorrow’s problem-solvers today, which is why we focus so heavily on creating a culture that is supportive and inclusive for everyone,” commented Brian Yates, managing director for Stantec in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

“We know we need to attract the best and brightest minds that can address our biggest societal and environmental challenges. We’re delighted to be named ‘Best place to work’, and I’d like to congratulate the many colleagues who have worked together to build such a values-driven company.”

Cath Schefer, Stantec’s executive vice president and chief operating officer for the global region added: “Both these awards serve as fantastic recognition of our people. They perfectly reflect where we've focussed our recent efforts. We have worked hard to provide the best environment for our people so they can be truly happy at work, have untethered access to our international expertise, and bring the best ideas to our clients around the world.  Our success here is reflected by the growth we've achieved and by the scale of projects we continue to win. Congratulations to our people, both in the UK and internationally who have worked together to make this happen.”
