Supporting a new climate resilience workstream, Stantec will share knowledge and insight with built environment leaders
The UKGBC is a member-led industry network, representing a unified voice for those in the built environment working to support climate resilience and drive sustainability forward.
Drawing on the UKGBC’s Climate Resilience Roadmap, the workstream will examine interventions that can be retrofitted to existing non-domestic buildings to make them more resilient to climate hazards such as drought, storms, flooding, and overheating.
Stantec will contribute to workshops in a strategic steering role, working closely with other industry leaders to help the sector better understand the risks and likely impacts from climate change on the growing built environment. The initial workshops will look at the benefits, opportunities, and challenges of retrofitting office and retail buildings.
The Building Adaptation project will review innovative approaches to adaptation, as well as how these measures can minimise costs and disruption while boosting efficiency with better integration into building maintenance.
“Whether it’s through nature-based solutions and designing urban green spaces, or integrating more heat- and flood-resistant infrastructure, we collectively need to strengthen climate resilience in buildings across urban areas,” said Rebecca Lydon, director, sustainability for Stantec in the UK. “We’re proud of our role supporting the UKGBC in driving meaningful impacts and sharing our knowledge in this critical subject area.”
