Understanding migration from London to the wider South East of England

The London Plan, published in March 2021, sets a housing delivery target of 52,000 homes per year over ten years—significantly short of the identified need.

There is a need for collaboration between authorities across the Wider South East to address the London’s unmet housing need. Stantec’s Development Economics team has analysed migration data from the Mid-Year Population Estimates produced by the Office for National Statistics. In doing so, they’ve aimed to determine how many people moved out of Greater London to the wider South East to identify where the greatest pressure for housing outside the capital will fall.
