West Hartford Electric Vehicle (EV) Readiness Plan

Helping a community provide equitable access to electric vehicle supply equipment

Applying an innovative product to supercharge EV success

Our client wanted to develop an electric vehicle (EV) readiness plan with a focus on the equitable rollout of EV supply equipment (EVSE) for residents and visitors without access to designated off-street parking. They engaged our team to lead this effort.

We conducted internal and external stakeholder outreach to develop the vision, goals, and objectives to effectively apply ZEVDecide for optimal EV charging site selection. Using a geographic information system (GIS) tool to map EV demand and supportive infrastructure, we coordinated with the local electric utility provider and evaluated our client’s current business model in the EVSE ecosystem. We developed a time-phased plan that prioritized EV infrastructure construction and identified charging typologies such as dense mixed-use parking garages, multifamily residential buildings, and office parks.

The project’s success and findings are supporting several other EVSE initiatives including the West Hartford Center Infrastructure Master Plan, parking codes, and design specifications and requirements for EVSE vendors.
