Working with TDOT’s internal stakeholders to provide a new ATMS solution, Stantec used the systems engineering analysis (SEA) approach. The analysis included concept of operations workshops and evaluation of alternatives, which were summarized in an SEA Report. The SEA process developed system requirements for the new ATMS that reflects TDOT’s need to have next-generation capabilities. This functionality had to address not only incident management, but also congestion management. When it came time to develop and deploy the final software in concert with the software developer, we continued to work closely with the TDOT TMCs to minimize downtime and disruption while training their team on the new software. We integrated over 1,500 ITS devices and even developed a new application to facilitate AVL functionality on the Cisco platform.
Dubbed TDOT’s SmartWay Central Software, the new platform with its map-based interface eliminates redundant operator entries and improves operational efficiency and capability. The advanced features we developed for the TMC software will not only save time and money, but more importantly, it provides safer and more efficient travel across the state.
