Fueling a bus fleet on the road to decarbonization
Taking the energy transition to the next level, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada is looking to build a hydrogen fueling facility with the capacity to support 50 fuel cell electric (FCE) buses. They engaged us to develop a new facility that will help decarbonize their fleet.
We’re preparing comprehensive planning and design engineering for the facility. Our work includes assessing options for supplying it with cryogenic-liquid hydrogen or producing hydrogen gas on-site using either steam-methane reforming or water electrolysis. Our design for a permanent liquid hydrogen (LH2)-based hydrogen-fueling facility has recently been submitted to the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for plan-check approval. In the meantime, we’re also providing design engineering for a temporary hydrogen-fueling facility for fueling up to four FCE buses nightly using gaseous tube-trailer delivery of hydrogen.
By embracing hydrogen-powered buses and infrastructure, the RTC aims for a greener future and a positive impact on the community.
