Linking Melbourne Airport with Victoria’s existing rail networks

For the first time, Melbourne Airport will be linked to Victoria’s existing metropolitan and regional rail networks through a heavy rail line, the Melbourne Airport Rail (MAR)—a crucial piece of transport infrastructure that will help meet the demands of Victoria’s growing population.

As principal design consultant on the early works package, we’re relocating more than 100 utility assets along the rail corridor to clear the path for the future MAR line. This involves managing project, scope, technical, and safety requirements across a range of designers and stakeholders. We’re using innovative technology to develop a utilities digital twin model with clash detection and model attribution, and we’re providing technical design, geotechnical, environmental, construction consultancy support, and survey management services.

Monitoring survey data and consolidating everything into the digital twin will help to de-risk any future MAR works, and will be handed over to the client at completion. When live, the MAR will provide passengers with a 10-minute turn-up-and-go service from Melbourne Airport and a 30-minute journey to the central business district (CBD), connecting communities to local and international travel.
