As a teen, Robert took a keen interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects, which led him to study civil engineering at university. As he made his way through his studies, Robert became attracted to the geotechnical side of the industry and landed a role in tailings in 2006.
Robert believes great strides have been made in tailings governance, technology improvement and knowledge, particularly with the introduction of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) in 2020 and the ICOLD Bulletin on Tailings Dam Safety (B194). He is inspired to help set the benchmark for the management of tailings storage facilities in his daily work by working closely with clients when scoping and delivering a project. His goal is to correctly allocate resourcing to complete tasks to meet required industry and client standards.
When he isn’t in work mode, Robert enjoys cruising the city on his cargo bike with the kids or going off-grid camping and four-wheel driving.
